Faux Finish (Stone & Wood Textures & Effects)

I have worked on many different projects using custom faux finishing including rag rolling and sponging. My specialty is stone (particularly travertine any color) and wood grain (koa). I have worked on walls, columns, molding, shelves and ceilings. If the client desires, I add medallions with glass beads or other specialty effects.

The client originally had three columns that were faux finished with a soft melon wash and we decided to match them to a stone mosaic in the center of the floor by changing the finish to a warm travertine. The rings of the columns match the warm green/gray floor.

The clients were interested in giving their guest powder room a soft elegant atmosphere. Using many layers of various taupes and a soft green I accomplished the desired effect. I added a soft metallic green for movement in the room.

Hawaii Kai, Vase Shelf.
3’ x 2’. The client wanted to continue the travertine from the columns throughout the house. So we worked together to match the faux finishes.

Hawaii Kai, Ceiling Faux Finish
7’ diameter. We used eucalyptus colored paint and a gold and bronze metallic faux finish to tie the ceiling to the rest of the décor.

Hawaii Kai, Guest powder room Tromploie
The client wanted her powder room to be special so we designed a 3 layer eucalyptus faux finish and added a Tromploie valence around the top of the walls with orchids hanging over the sides. I must have done a good job, as when I was starting to slip I reached for the valence (which isn’t actually there).

Hawaii Kai, Hawaiian relief sculpture.
3’ x 8’. The client purchased the relief and wanted to change the gray background to a rich sepia tone wash, to convey an older style Hawaiin look.

Hawaii Loa Ridge, HI
The client and contractor were looking for an artist to match the various Koa wood grains around the home that they were building. The architects design included many curved walls where a rubber molding was used instead of wood. I painted these to match the adjoining Koa grains.

Kaneohe, HI
5 layer faux finish in bedroom. These clients have done a fabulous job renovating their house in Kaneohe with a Tommy Bahama style of colors and accessories. I designed a faux finish to compliment the rest of their home with warm rich colors and the illusion of depth to their feature wall.
